The county of Dorset is evolving and developing all the time. In fact, the county’s population is expected to grow by some 35% in the next 25 years. We're a high performing authority, and we're committed to continuous improvement. Our aim? Becoming a 'Council fit for the future' by securing high quality services for our community. A forward-thinking County Council, we are focused on further improving the quality of life for people in Dorset, today and in the future. And quality of life is something that we already enjoy in abundance. Dorset’s coast and countryside is amongst the most varied and beautiful in England. It provides people with varied landscapes, rich in spectacular scenery, geology and wildlife. So much so that the Dorset and East Devon Coast was awarded World Heritage Site status in December 2001. Living in Dorset ranges from the tranquil and traditional to the modern and urban. The county also enjoys an excellent transport network: by rail, London is just two hours’ away; by sea, France is a short hop across the Channel; and Bournemouth International Airport also offers flights all over the globe. Working in partnership with the districts, borough, town and parish councils, as well as the voluntary sector and other partners, Dorset is a community leader for its local people. We strive to get the fundamentals right - high quality, affordable services, which meet customer needs and respond to the diversity of our community.
