This unique agency was set up in 2002 by ex PR consultant Caroline Cooke. She and her husband were looking for an after school nanny for their daughter and found the choice very limited so decided to start After School Nannies. After the birth of her second child Caroline wanted to spend more time with the children and in July 2006 the agency was taken over by Elizabeth Rackow, mother of three and ex television executive.
After School Nannies specialises in providing part-time nannies to work after-school from one to five afternoons a week and also full days during school holidays. The service is primarily designed for working mothers but also parents who may need an extra pair of hands at tea and bath time.
Nannies are usually in education in one way or another - undergraduates, teachers in training or qualified teachers and some ex-au pairs. The agency requires a high level of spoken English as many families need help with homework, and wherever possible drivers too who can manage school runs.
All nannies must have previous relevant child-care experience, are interviewed in person and have references checked. The agency also insists that all nannies on its books have a current enhanced CRB.
