Teaching Assistant job - full time - start date January - Primary School in Cardiff

Job – Teaching Assistant – Cardiff
Full time support required in the Nursery Class - 1:1 Support

Hays Education are looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant for a long-term, full time job to start in January. This job will be supporting 2 pupils on a 1:1 basis (1 pupil in the mornings and 1 pupil in the afternoons) within the nursery department of a mainstream Primary school. This role will be for at least one year with the potential to be renewed.

As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will be working with one pupil in the mornings, and one pupil in the afternoons. Both children will be newly entering the nursery department as part of the rising 3’s additional intake, and are currently going through a statementing process for learning/behavioural difficulties. The successful candidate will have experience, and extensive knowledge of supporting the Foundation Phase Curriculum and Early Years Development, as well as experience/understanding of supporting children with Special/Additional Educational needs.

You will be supporting the pupils to achieve developmental milestones and learning goals, through structured activities and play. It will be essential that you build a good bond/working relationship with the children as a means of helping them to remain on task and focused, as well as ensuring that they feel confident and secure, both in terms of their work, and in their interaction with other pupils. As the children progress through the statementing process you may also need to adapt activities in order to support their requirements.

The Early Years unit within the school caters to more than 80 children, with an open-plan set-up. The right person for the job will therefore need to demonstrate initiative and apply a pro-active approach to tasks and to the fast pace of the environment. You will be competent in contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the nursery, and will be a positive role model for the pupils. The school are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills who is able to build strong rapport with staff and children alike. You will need to be adaptable to change and have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a strong understanding of Child Protection and Safeguarding regulations. It will be important that you are able to work well within a team, and have strong communication skills as a means of being able to feedback to the class teacher, other relevant staff members, and parents in relation to the progress of the pupils.

In order to apply for this role, you will need;
To be qualified as a Teaching Assistant to level 2 (or above/equivalent),
Excellent knowledge and practice of the Foundation Phase Curriculum, and Early Years Development
Excellent knowledge and practise of working with children with additional needs
The ability to apply appropriate behaviour management techniques so as to help the children remain on task
Recent, referenceable experience as a Teaching Assistant within a similar environment.
