Teaching Assistant job - 121 support - Male Teaching Assistant required. Start date 5th June.

Teaching Assistant – Nurture

A large Primary School in Cardiff are looking for a Male Teaching Assistant to provide 121 support for a pupil with learning and behavioural difficulties within their nurture class, on a long term and full time basis. This role is to commence ASAP – ideally on 5th June at the latest, and is likely to extend into September 2017 and beyond.

You will be working alongside 6 other members of staff to provide nurture support for pupils with learning and behavioural difficulties. You will work to create a calm learning environment where pupils feel supported, included and valued. You will work closely with other staff to ensure that the social and emotional needs of the pupils are catered to, which in turn will assist their academic development. Part of this will be supporting pupils in developing their confidence/self-esteem, their interaction with others, their ability to develop self-respect/pride in their behaviour and level of achievement.

A large part of the basis upon which the nurture class exists, is based around social learning, communication and development. It will therefore be important that you have excellent communication skills, taking time to explain things to the pupils in a way that meets their level of understanding, thus removing learning barriers. This will also support the pupils in their ability to express themselves, and be attentive when others are doing so. This is important in creating an environment where children listen, and are listened to, thus helping the children to feel valued. You will need to have excellent interpersonal skills. This will be important in working alongside the already established team to ensure that staff relationships support the environment in a role-modelling capacity. The relationships that staff demonstrate among one another, will be of impact upon how the children learn to interact with others. It is therefore important that the right person add value to the current dynamic.

Should you wish to apply for this role, you will need;

  • An NVQ level 2 in childcare or above/equivalent
  • Experience of supporting children with additional learning needs and behavioural difficulties, within a classroom environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to develop a strong rapport and effective working relationship with both staff and pupils
  • A genuine desire to provide social, emotional and academic support to pupils, and have a positive impact upon their learning experience
  • Good behaviour management skills
  • The pupils within the nurture class come from across they key stages, it is therefore important that you have experience in supporting pupils across the key stages, and the ability to adapt accordingly.

Please note that it is a genuine occupational requirement that we can only consider male applicants for this role. Please note that we can consider female applicants for other similar roles, so please still apply should this type of role be of interest.

Should you wish to apply for this position, please send your CV as soon as possible. Please ensure that your CV details all relevant skills and experience as outlined above. Please note that our ability to consider you for this role, is subject to our ability to obtain satisfactory references and documentation.
